The Payroll Specialist will support both internal teams and clients with labor, leave, and payroll-related activities, primarily within the Costpoint People module. This role will be responsible for tasks related to timekeeping, labor processing, leave processing, payroll processing, benefit setup, open enrollment, compensation plans and more. The successful candidate will have a strong accounting background, excellent attention to detail, and a willingness to learn. This role will start primarily as an internal support position, with the expectation that the individual will transition to working directly with clients.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with labor, leave, and payroll processing activities.
- Use available resources, to include documentation, training materials, recordings, and online classes to learn Costpoint functionality.
- Support employee setup and maintenance in Costpoint People, including timekeeping, labor, leave, payroll, benefits setup, open enrollment, and compensation plans.
- Review employee and payroll data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Participate in payroll processing cycles and help ensure all deadlines are met.
- Assist with implementation, process improvements and ongoing support of the Costpoint People module.
- Identify issues, troubleshoot problems, and take initiative to find solutions.
- Work with internal teams to research and resolve payroll, labor, and employee-related issues.
- Maintain documentation related to payroll, labor, and employee setup.
- Take ownership of assigned tasks and complete them without constant oversight.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent experience (4+ years).
- Accounting experience to include AR, AP, labor, payroll, etc. preferred.
- Payroll or labor processing experience is a plus but not required.
- Costpoint experience is a plus but not required.
- Strong attention to detail; accuracy and precision are critical.
- Interest in labor, leave, and payroll is required.
- Self-starter who can work independently.
- Ability to solve problems and research issues independently.
- Ability to manage deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Open to ask questions and seek help when needed.
- Strong organizational skills and time management skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Dependable, trustworthy, and mature.
Certifications
- Must be a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or willing to become certified.
- Must be willing to become Costpoint People certified.
Work Expectations
- Must be able to work a regular schedule and additional hours when necessary to meet payroll and client-related deadlines.
- Must be willing to work in the office for the first six months, unless exceptional circumstances apply.
